Cutting down or cutting out is a prudent question at this juncture when we are at in a situation of being caught between ‘Scylla & Charbidis’!! Cutting down or cutting out is a prudent question at this juncture when we are at in a situation of being caught between ‘Scylla & Charbidis’!! What we need to realize is that cutting out with a narrow perspective of recession may be unwise since one need to look beyond and the repercussion on the Exchequer. Cutting down is a sane decision, given the gloomy scenario. How much is yet another debatable argument? Petroleum prices like petrol and diesel is the ‘spinal chord’ of the pricing structure of all commodities & services. Rs 5 and 2 per litre of petrol and diesel respectively effected will ‘pave & prepare’ the ‘path to recovery’ & ‘keep a tab-cum-check’ on inflationary trends which can be ‘suicidal’ at this hour!! These cuts will suffice for the ‘time being’, but certainly may not be right quantum for the ‘interim period’. General prices are bound to see a ‘southward trend’ very soon. Concessions sanctioned by government need to be always delivered in ‘dosages’ rather than ‘dump’ all of them in ‘one go’. Benefits of international slump in petroleum prices cannot be parted by the government to the consumers, all of them. They need to keep for the treasury a portion of it as a ‘float’ to offset losses suffered on other counts of concessions offered to specific sectors. A review of the recession situation at an appropriate time may be the right answer to the question of ‘adequacy of cuts’. If need be, the government may reduce further.Let’s not be ‘avaricious’ instead be ‘content’ with what has been offered to us. Beggars can’t be choosers!!
